Exchange Server 2019 Standard — Device CAL (Client Access License) is an access license that authorizes one specific device to connect to Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 Standard Edition. Unlike a User CAL, a Device CAL is assigned to a computer, which means any number of users working on that device can access Exchange at no additional cost. When you buy from Licensier.com for €99, you receive an original license key by email within minutes, with full technical support and a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Key features

  • Access to Exchange Server 2019 Standard — email, shared calendar, contacts, and tasks for all users of the licensed device
  • Per-device license (Device CAL) — one device, unlimited users on that device can access Exchange
  • Perpetual license — one-time payment with no subscription, monthly fees, or annual charges
  • Outlook Web Access (OWA) — browser-based email access on the licensed device
  • ActiveSync and MAPI/IMAP/POP3 protocols — full compatibility with email clients
  • Backward compatibility — the Exchange 2019 Device CAL also works with Exchange Server 2016 and 2013
  • Ideal for shared workstations — reception desks, checkout points, production stations, kiosks: one device, multiple employees
  • Scalability — buy additional licenses individually as your infrastructure expands

Who is it for?

A Device CAL is the optimal licensing model when one computer is used by multiple shift-based or rotating employees. Typical scenarios include reception desks, warehouse terminals, shared computers on production floors, information kiosks, and checkout stations. Instead of purchasing a separate User CAL for every employee using the same computer, a single Device CAL per device is sufficient. If your employees have individual accounts and connect to Exchange from multiple devices such as a desktop, laptop, and phone, a User CAL will be the more cost-effective option.

System requirements

  • Server: Exchange Server 2019 Standard or Enterprise on Windows Server 2019 or later
  • Client: Microsoft Outlook 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024, or Microsoft 365

What do you receive?

After purchase from Licensier.com, you will receive an original Exchange Server 2019 Standard Device CAL license key by email, usually within 5 minutes. This is a perpetual license that entitles one device to use Exchange Server 2019 Standard, regardless of how many users sign in on that device. You register the key in the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) or activate it according to your organisation’s procedure. Our technical support team is available 7 days a week and will assist you with setup at every stage. Instant delivery, secure payment by Klarna, SEPA, or PayPal, and a VAT invoice are included.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a Device CAL and a User CAL?

A Device CAL (device license) is assigned to a specific computer, so all users of that device can access Exchange. A User CAL (user license) is assigned to one specific person, and that user can connect from any number of devices. A Device CAL is the better choice for shared workstations such as reception, warehouse, or production environments. A User CAL is more suitable when an employee uses several personal devices.

Can I mix User CAL and Device CAL within one organisation?

Yes. Microsoft allows both CAL types to be mixed within the same organisation. You can buy User CALs for office employees with their own desktops and laptops, and Device CALs for shared workstations. This helps optimise licensing costs.

What happens if I replace the computer with a new one?

A Device CAL may be transferred to a new device replacing the old one, provided the old device is retired or no longer connects to Exchange. One Device CAL cannot be used on two active devices at the same time.

Does a Device CAL also cover access from a mobile phone?

No. A Device CAL covers only the device to which it is assigned. If an employee also wants to use Exchange email on a mobile phone, that phone requires a separate Device CAL unless the employee has a User CAL, which covers all of their devices.

Do I also need a separate Exchange server license?

Yes. A CAL only grants client access rights to the server. The Exchange server itself requires a separate server license, either Exchange Server 2019 Standard or Enterprise. Every user or device connecting to the server must have the appropriate CAL. These are two separate components of Microsoft’s licensing model.
